“Sir,” Gideon replied, “if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us?” Judges 6:13
Who among us hasn’t asked this question? Don’t tell me you haven’t. But you’ve probably been scared to say it out loud, haven’t you? Somewhere along the way, we’ve convinced ourselves that it’s taboo to ask a question like this. You don’t know how many times I heard “I know you’re not supposed to question God” while I was visiting someone in the hospital or after the death of a loved-one.
Asking questions isn’t a bad thing. If it was, the angel would’ve struck Gideon dead. Immediately. He didn’t.
It all boils down to this: to whom are you asking the question? Are you asking God where He is? Or are you just asking yourself? Are you really looking for answers? Or are you throwing a personal pity party?
Go ahead. Ask away. Just make sure you’re asking the right Person. You might be surprised by the answer, though.
